Emerging Trends: New York Fashion Week – February 2011

Here at MissChiChi.com we like to be ahead of the crowd.

That’s why we always take the business of trend-spotting very seriously indeed.

NY Fall 2011 Fashion Week has just come to a close and our dedication to monitoring all things hosiery-related means we’ve been catwalk-watching like crazy!

And that’s fantastic news for you, because we’re now right up to date with the latest designer trends.

Just like previous year’s, this year’s NY Fall Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week showcased a wealth of exciting and enticing new looks with designers breaking new ground in terms of both fashion and accessories.

For those of us who are perhaps a little obsessed with fabulous legwear, this was certainly an exquisite visual feast.

From raunchy and grungy to luxurious and refined, NY Fashion Week unveiled a dazzling series of refreshingly original designs.

We were practically drooling with delirious delight! In fact, with styles this captivating on the horizon, we’re already looking forward to autumn 2011 (now that’s being truly obsessed!).

Having said that, however, we must admit that there were also a number of trends that we’re still not quite sure about… For example, men’s exposed socks? We’re not entirely positive that the men we know will be rocking that particular trend anytime soon.

But never mind that… let’s look at some of the new trends that we totally love:

Polka-dot legs by Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs unveiled an edgy new fashion collection that featured adventurous combinations of fabrics and textures.

The use of lace created a girly and romantic feel, while leather and rubber added a sense of fun to garments… with a hint of fetish!

Meanwhile, polka-dot legs were everywhere! Little itsy dots and big bad bold dots!

Grunge-chic tights by Prabal Gurung

The Singapore-born designer presented us with a unique combination of draped and flowing gowns that were cheekily teamed with tough-looking grunge-chic tights.

This look really shouldn’t work… but, somehow, it definitely does!

Over at NY Mag, Gurung’s style is described as ‘Great Expectations Meets Brooklyn’ – not a bad way to sum up this impressive autumn 2011 collection.
